Here's how the pottying process works chez Davidow:
- Andrew either says "Pee in potty" or starts disrobing or both.
- Andrew gets his own self to his potty.
- A huge smile of relief comes during the relief because he knows what's happening.
- When he's finished, we have a big hug and many high 10s (high 5s are insufficient) and many, many, many "Yay Andrew!"s.
- Andrew picks up the bowl from the potty chair and carefully(ish) carries it the 2 feet to the toilet.
- Andrew dumps the pee in the toilet, and sometimes a little on the floor.
- Andrew gets to flush.
- Andrew gets to rinse out the bowl in the bathtub.
- Andrew turns on his evil cuteness by sitting on his potty chair sans bowl and threatening to pee through the hole onto the floor.
- More hugs, more high 10s, more yays, and often a call to Grandma and Grandpa.
His teachers are on high alert to these new developments, and they're going to invite him to pee on the toilet regularly. They give M&Ms as rewards in that class, so something tells me Andrew will be peeing every 20 minutes.
I'm very excited to shop for little boy underwear one of these days!

I can so relate to this. Sophie just one day decided to announce she was done with diapers. That was it. We went and bought panties and she never looked back.
After potty training 2 kids (only 1 more to go, hurrah!), I have learned the hard way that the laissez-faire approach is the best strategy. They'll do it when they're ready, and no amount of tricks or fretting or bribes will hurry it along.
So this comment is being added at the suggestion of Auntie Barbara (Grandpa Joe's sister). I told her the following story, and she thought this would be a great place to memorialize it.
Since the school is doing the M&M reward system, Grandpa Joe's initial thoughts about this notwithstanding, we are doing it as well. It was during one of our reinforcing talks, that the following occured:
REINFORCER: Andrew, remember its ONE M&M if you pee in the toilet, and THREE M&Ms if you poop in the toilet.
ANDREW: How many M&M if I fart?
By the way, its now about 6 weeks after the original posting. Andrew is doing spectacularly well. To my knowledge, he has no wetness events while awake, and last night, slept through the entire night and woke up dry.
Sivi and Grandpa Joe love you very much. We have had you with us since mid afternoon yesterday, and we have been having a FANTASTIC time.
Grandpa Joe
