Discovery Green opened the day Andrew was born. Literally. And it took us two years and eleven days to get there.
If you'd asked me ten years ago, or even ten days ago, if Houston could or should have a park downtown, I would have laughed and then launched into a diatribe about this city's incessant need to spend money on new things downtown that I have no interest in, like stadiums and more stadiums.
But I wouldn't say that today, because we've gone. And it's great. Andrew and I met his friends Conner, Trey, and Matthew and their families (including babies Cecilia and Rebecca) at Discovery Green on a recent Saturday morning. It was one of those gorgeous Houston days we get for about six weeks a year -- three in the spring and three in the fall. Andrew and Conner were our water babies, splashing in Gateway Fountain (which is named, I assume, after the St. Louis Gateway Arch). All four guys had a great time at the playground. And everyone was happy to eat snacks and lunch. The baby girls took it all in and attempted to shield themselves from the big boys' kisses.
Here are some video and pictures of our day.
